About Alex MacNeil-Boytel — Registered Psychotherapist in Ottawa.
Nice to meet you, I’m Alex.
A Registered Psychotherapist License #17102 (CRPO) offering in-person sessions in Ottawa and virtual therapy across Ontario. I help adults navigate anxiety, OCD, burnout, and the quieter kind of stuck that doesn't always have a name.
Why People Come to Therapy
People come to therapy from different places. Some arrive with a clear sense of what they want to work on. Others have a feeling that something isn't working and want space to slow down and make sense of it.
What matters most to me is helping you move forward in a way that feels intentional and sustainable.
My role isn't to push you toward quick answers or fixed outcomes. It's to help you understand what's keeping you stuck, clarify what matters to you, and begin taking small steps in that direction, even when things feel uncomfortable or uncertain.
My Approach to Therapy — ACT, CBT & Collaborative Care
I work collaboratively, meaning we make sense of things together rather than following a rigid script. I draw from evidence-based approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), with attention to attachment and relational patterns. The work is shaped by you, not by a preset formula.
Sessions are supportive without being passive. I aim to be thoughtful, honest, and gently challenging when that helps you move forward. We'll go at a pace that respects you, while staying mindful of when anxiety or avoidance might be quietly calling the shots.
You don't need to feel ready or confident before starting. We focus on building clarity and momentum gradually, even when discomfort is part of the process.
Who I tend to work with
I work with adults (18+) in Ottawa and across Ontario navigating anxiety, perfectionism, obsessive thoughts, burnout, or a sense of disconnection from the life they want to be living.
Values and Approach
Meaningful change often comes from taking small, purposeful actions toward what matters — rather than waiting to feel better first. Therapy isn't about eliminating discomfort. It's about helping you build a life that feels more workable and aligned over time.
The work is collaborative and responsive. If something isn't landing, we talk about it. If your needs shift, the work shifts too.
A Bit About Me — Outside the Therapy Room.
Outside of therapy, I value spending time with people I care about and saying yes to experiences that feel meaningful, even when they're not easy. I try to bring that same grounded, real-world perspective into the therapy space.
When I'm not working, you'll often find me spending time outdoors, exploring new places, or planning my next trip back to Scotland. I appreciate the perspective that comes from stepping away from routine and reconnecting with the people and experiences that matter most.
