How Therapy Works at Bridgepoint

The Bridge Crossing Approach

Therapy here isn't a script or a fixed protocol.

It's a collaborative process built around where you are right now and where you want to go, grounded in evidence-based approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I call it the bridge crossing.

Let’s dive into how the approach works.

Step One — Build the Bridge.

Thinking of therapy as a bridge crossing is where this begins.

We start where you are, figure out where you want to go, and begin building the beams of the bridge, together.

In practical terms:

  • We look at the patterns you're stuck in right now

  • We get curious about where they came from, and how those learned behaviours might be blocking you today

  • We arm you with coping strategies and tools, so that when you feel ready enough, we can stop building and start walking

That's when we move to step two.

Step Two — Do It Scared, Do It on Purpose.

Once we have the tools to regulate emotions and a clearer picture of your avoidance and behavioural patterns, we move to action — at your pace.

What "Do It Scared" Actually Means

“Do it scared" sounds harsher than it is. Here's what it doesn't mean, and what it does:

  • It does not mean forcing or pressuring

  • It does not mean chasing panic attacks or flooding you with exposure

  • It does mean values-led action while tolerating discomfort

You move toward what matters to you — slowly, on purpose, and with support. Not recklessly, and not all at once.

What to Expect — Sessions, Fees & Logistics

  • Consults are 15–20 minutes long and meant to give both of us a sense of whether we can work together well. We'll briefly cover what's bringing you to therapy, your goals, and any questions you have. I'll also let you know how I work and whether I'm the right fit for your specific case, with zero pressure to book a session.

  • A therapeutic hour is typically 45–55 minutes, with the remaining 5–15 minutes dedicated to updating your client file. I aim for around 50 minutes. Extended 75–80 minute sessions are available depending on need and count as 1.5 therapeutic hours — just ask if you're interested.

  • My fee is $160 per therapeutic hour, payable by e-transfer or credit card. A receipt is sent on payment for tax or insurance purposes.

  • My services are accepted by most insurance providers, as long as the wording explicitly covers work by a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO). Please check with your insurance provider to confirm coverage, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

  • Sessions are available in-person in Ottawa or virtually across Ontario. My office is at Suite 240, 1101 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa, ON — shared space with the Ottawa Psychotherapy Center.

  • Yes! Virtual sessions are available to clients anywhere in Ontario, through a secure, confidential video platform. Many clients prefer this for flexibility, privacy, or accessibility reasons.
